Django Unchained Tops DVD Charts

Tarantino's epic drama knocks The Hobbit out of first place.

After a bonanza box office run, Django Unchained continues its ride to the top of the charts.
This time, Quentin Tarantino's antebellum spaghetti western came in first on the DVD and Blu-Ray charts, beating out Peter Jackson's The Hobbit. The film, which grossed $168 million in theaters, also topped the rentals chart for the week.

Django Unchained stars Jamie Foxx as a freed slave hell-bent on rescuing his wife (Kerry Washington) from a malicious plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio) with the help of a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz, who won an Oscar for his performance). The film attracted a storm of controversy for its liberal use of the N-word and was derided by filmmaker Spike Lee for being "disrespectful" to his ancestors.
Audiences and critics, however, stood firmly on the side of the film, which was Tarantino's most successful to date.

Ashanti: "I Feel Blessed to Still Be Here"

Ashanti: "I Feel Blessed to Still Be Here".

With a new album due this spring, she stars in Army Wives.

More than a decade since her fast rise to fame with her smash "Foolish" and self-titled Grammy-winning debut album, Ashanti, 32, is readying her fifth studio album, Braveheart, just as her acting career is heating up. The Long Island, New York, native has joined the cast of the long-running Lifetime Sunday night series Army Wives, starting with the March 17th episode. In a recent conversation, she discussed the role, her music plans and a to-do list that includes skydiving and having kids.

How did you come to join the cast of Army Wives?
I was recording my album and hadn't gone on an audition in a while, but I had three that week. I had a call-back and a screen test and once I got it, I made it a priority. I was a fan. I would watch reruns with my mother when I came home from the recording studio. She was an army brat and identifies with the show.

Your character is introduced as a mother of three kids whose husband is deployed in Afghanistan. What else will we learn about her?
She's sassy, she's classy, she has spunk, she's educated, she says what she means and she adores her kids, two boys and a girl. Her youngest son has cystic fibrosis, so she deals with a lot. She's a very strong woman. But if she has a problem, she might go to the other wives. They lean on each other.

You don't have children, so how do you like playing a mom of three?
Love it! They are hilarious! I love kids. I used to work in a daycare center and I have a godson and little cousins. Kids dig me. I love them and they love me back. These kids are awesome, super talented. It does make me want to have kids, get married and all that good stuff, but way later on, when the time is right.

You have a new album, Braveheart, due this spring. How are you juggling acting and recording?
On the weekends, I'm in the studio and I write between scenes on set. It gets a little hard sometimes. I love creating music but I have to focus and know my lines. So it's definitely a balance.

You've released the track "That's What We Do" with R. Kelly. What's next?
We also released "The Woman You Love" and will put out more. Today, it's about putting out as much musical content as you can and using social media to promote it. We'll definitely put out another single, maybe two, before the album. I'm going to have my music in some episodes of Army Wives. Once the series is over, we'll plan a tour.

Do music and acting fulfill you differently?
Yes. I'm so thankful to be able to write a song that touches another person, be able to connect with people through music and inspire them to keep going and follow their hearts and their dreams. It's great to play different characters and use your talent to make them come to life. I love both. I'm pretty blessed. I get paid for things I love!

What goals do you set for yourself?
I want to push my career to the limit, try different things and create partnerships. I think it's really important to give back, which is why I work with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to inspire young women especially to accomplish their goals. Times are tough all around, and even the music, film and television businesses have suffered. I feel blessed to still be here and still be the same me.

Drake, Nicki Minaj and Other Celebs Visit Lil Wayne in Hospital

Drake, Nicki Minaj and Other Celebs Visit Lil Wayne in Hospital.

Weezy in stable condition after suffering seizure on Friday.

Lil Wayne's hospital room was more star-packed than the Grammy Awards.

Drake, Birdman, Nicki Minaj and several other celebs paid a visit to the ailing superstar over the weekend. Weezy was hospitalized on Friday amid conflicting reports about his health, with one gossip site saying he was in a medically-induced coma while close friends and representatives from his label Young Money Records clarifying that he was alert and responsive.

Insiders did, however, confirm that the rapper did suffer another seizure on Friday, after a series of seizures earlier in the week. Sources claim the seizures were brought on by an overdose of Sizzurp, the dangerous concoction of cough medicine and soda that gets frequent reference in many of Wayne's tracks, though that assumption has not been confirmed by doctors at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where the 30-year-old is being treated.

Apart from Weezy's label mate Minaj and frequent collaborator Drake, Los Angeles Clippers star Chris Paul and R&B singer Usher also came to visit. The scene was an emotional one for friends of the rapper, whose history with substance abuse is well-documented. Minaj, one of Wayne's oldest friends in the business, "broke down" when she saw him, according to HollywoodLife.com.

"She cried because she didn’t want to see him in the hospital with s*** in his arms and doctors around," a source says. "But all in all, she had a good visit with him and Wayne seems cool."

Twitter has been ablaze since news of Wayne's hospitalization broke on Friday afternoon, with stars and fans alike tweeting for information and sending their well-wishes for the rapper's speedy recovery. Weezy put fans at ease when a message from his own Twitter account confirmed, "I'm good everybody. Thx for the prayers and love."

While no official details has been released from doctors about Lil Wayne's condition, for now it seems the Young Money boss is stable, resting and surrounded by loved ones.

Rihanna Cancels Second Tour Date Due to Laryngitis.

Baltimore will have to wait until Rih Rih recovers.

Even world-famous pop stars need their sick days.

Rihanna was forced to cancel a second tour date this week due to a nasty bout of influenza and laryngitis, Billboard.com reports. The "Diamonds" singer will delay her Baltimore show until she recovers. She had canceled her engagement in Boston on Sunday when the virus struck.

Event organizers are telling fans to hold on to their tickets and wait on word for a rescheduled date. Rihanna's Diamonds World Tour kicked off in Buffalo, New York on Friday. She is next scheduled to perform in Philadelphia on Thursday.

Hopefully she has her man Breezy by her side while she gets well.

Cash Money Daughters Write Novel

Cash Money Daughters Write Novel.

Lil Wayne and Birdman proud to see their little girls pen a fictional adaption of teen life.

In the latest news from Cash Money Content, the literary division of the recording powerhouse, Lil Wayne’s daughter, Reginae Carter teamed up with Birdman’s daughter, Bria Williams to write a novel loosely based on their experience of being "unintentionally famous," reports Vibe.com.

"Paparazzi Princesses" focuses on two teenagers, named Kyla Jones and Promise Walker, as they navigate a world of media attention, young love, and two-faced friends.

Karyn Langhorne Folan, author of "Don’t Bring Home a White Boy," helped the real life teens navigate the world of writing.

Via a statement to the press, Lil Wayne said, "I’ve got to be honest. It’s inspiring to see what these girls have done. It wasn’t easy, and they did it all by themselves.'‘Proud' doesn’t even begin to describe how me and the Birdman feel. I can’t wait for everybody else to experience their story."

"They took an idea, worked extremely hard, and brought it to life," Birdman added. "It’s the kind of story that everybody can feel, and it’s only the start of much bigger things for these two wonderful young ladies.”

The book is set to release June 4 via Cash Money Content’s deal with Simon & Schuster. Other Cash Money authors include Evelyn Lozada (of Basketball Wives fame), pimp-turned-author Iceberg Slim, and street novel legend K’Wan.

Snoop Lion Debuts New Single on Conan

Snoop Lion Debuts New Single on Conan.

"No Guns Allowed" is the latest cut from the highly-anticipated album, Reincarnated.

By now Snoop Dogg fans have grown accustom to the hip hop star's transformation into Snoop Lion. The move from rapper to Rastafarian has drawn some harsh criticism and spawned confusion among some, but it has also produced some pretty good music.

The latest reggae-inspired single debuted on the Conan show last night [March 11]. This infectious tune is helping to erase any doubt that Snoop Lion is for real.

The song is titled "No Guns Allowed," and features Drake, who was not at the show to perform his part. The track is a mellow departure from Snoop's usual low rider-friendly street anthems.

It's a bold move for the "Murder Was The Case" rapper, who once hailed as one of the west coast's king of Gangsta Rap.

The new and more peaceful Snoop Lion will be releasing his latest album, the aptly titled, Reincarnated on April 23. The accompanying documentary of the same name, which follows Snoop on his spiritual journey to Jamaica, will hit theatres nationwide this Friday, March 15.

Michael Jordan Applies for Marriage License.

The NBA legend has been engaged to Yvette Prieto since December 2011.

NBA legend Michael Jordan will be walking down the aisle again. He applied for a marriage license at the Palm Beach Beach County, Florida, courthouse Thursday morning, according to the Associated Press.

Jordan, who recently celebrated his 50th birthday, has been engaged to his long-time girlfriend, Cuban-American model Yvette Prieto, since December 2011.

The license is good until May 6.

This will be his second marriage. He married Juanita Vanoy in September 1989, and they divorced in 2006. Jordan and Vanoy have two sons, Jeffrey Michael and Marcus James, and a daughter, Jasmine.

Chris Brown Explains Controversial "It's Mine" Freestyle

Chris Brown Explains Controversial "It's Mine" Freestyle.

Breezy says his claim to own Rihanna's private parts was only a song.

Chris Brown let out a big, toothy laugh when questioned about his spontaneous performance at the Emerson Theater in Hollywood last week. "On the mic the other night we heard you say that you owned Rihanna’s lady parts," a TMZ reporter said to Brown. “It’s a song. It’s a song. That’s all it is,” Brown responded with a hint of exasperation in his chuckle [see video below].

His laughter got more sincere when the reporter asked if he’s planning on "taking out insurance on that."

During the unplanned Emerson Theater freestyle, Brown took the spotlight and said, "Every guy in this building has said one thing to their female. If you're not an insecure n---a and you let her have fun with her friends, I applaud you. You gotta say that one thing to her, and I made this sh-- up."

He then crooned, "Don't make me have to tell you again, that that's my p---- baby/ It's mine babe, babe, mine/ Don't make me have to tell you again, that that's my p----, baby/ It's mine, girl, it's mine, girl, it's mine/ So you better not give it away."

As a signal to resume the party, he reinforced his suggestion, "So every person in this mother---ing building, if you got a bad b---- you better say that sh-- to her, or she might f--- another n---a. ... Let's go, turn it up."

This was the same night, the eve before International Women’s Day, that Brown yelled “F--- Drake,” when the DJ played "Started From the Bottom."

"So Chrs Brown came to the club last night after calling me a 'woman DJ' he told me to drop a track, so I played Drake, lol!" DJ Kayper tweeted.

It is unknown if the "song" is on the track list for Brown's new album set for release this year.

Jay-Z and Beyoncé Finances Hacked

Jay-Z and Beyoncé Finances Hacked.

The Carters are among a host of celebs who’ve had their financial information disclosed.

Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian and Michelle Obama are among the 17 well-known and high-ranking Americans whose personal financial information apparently was posted online.

On the home page of the site is a haunting image of a young girl holding one of her index fingers up to her lips (as if to signal "keep this on the hush"), a quote from the TV show Dexter ("If you believe that God makes miracles, you have to wonder if Satan has a few up his sleeve") and the list of celebs and politicians with hyperlinks to pages that detail such information as social security numbers, home addresses and credit reports.

Though all of the information has yet to be verified as accurate, reportedly the FBI and LAPD are investigating (FBI Director Robert Mueller and LAPD Chief Charlie Beck are among the high-ranking political figures targeted on the site).

The Huffington Post published a statement from the LAPD:

"LAPD detectives are investigating the recent disclosure of Chief Beck’s personal information. Apparently this is not necessarily a hacking incident. It is called ‘doxxing.’ This has happened to the chief on two other occasions prior to this in a similar nature post Occupy L.A. ... There will be no further comments or press conference on this matter."

Doxxing, which is essentially cyberstalking to obtain information, is not illegal unless actual hacking is involved.

"We’ll take steps to find out who did this, and if they’re within the boundaries of the United States, we’ll prosecute them," Beck said.

The site appears to have originated in Russia (it has an ".su" country code).

Britney Spears, Ashton Kutcher and Attorney General Eric Holder were among the others exposed on the site. Jay’s and Bey’s teams both have declined comments.

Justin Timberlake Claims No Kanye West Beef

Justin Timberlake Claims No Kanye West Beef.

Our repeated prayers for the ultimate deathmatch between Justin Timberlake and Kanye West will remain unanswered. On Monday night, Justin smoothed things out during an interview on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.

Over the weekend, Justin Timberlake altered the lyrics to "Suit and Tie" during his performance on Saturday Night Live. In what seemed to be a swipe at Kanye — who ranted in London last month that he "ain't f--king with that 'Suit & Tie'" — Justin sang, "My hits so sick/Got rappers acting dramatic," instead of the expected "S--t so sick/Got a hit and picked up a habit."

But two days later, on Fallon, he was denying the change even occurred. "I don’t remember that," he said slyly. He later only admitted, "Lyrics change."

He did eventually attempt to squash any rumors of beef with Kanye. "Everyone, keep calm. For the record, I absolutely love Kanye," Timberlake said, refusing to speak on it further.

JT closed out the show with a performance of "Pusher Love Girl," backed by his band and several dancers.

Congressional Black Caucus to Obama: Why No New Black Cabinet Picks?

Congressional Black Caucus to Obama: Why No New Black Cabinet Picks?.

As President Obama stocks his second-term cabinet, he's checked off some key demographic boxes except one that some believe is crucial — Black.

In a letter sent to the president Monday afternoon, Rep. Marcia Fudge, who chairs the Congressional Black Caucus, called him to task for not adding any African-Americans to his team of top advisers.

Fudge said that Obama's picks so far "have hardly been reflective of this country’s diversity" and Black lawmakers aren't the only ones asking questions.

"Congressional Black Caucus offices have had numerous phone calls from constituents questioning why none of the new appointees will be able to speak to the unique needs of African-Americans," Fudge wrote. "Their ire is compounded by the overwhelming support you’ve received from the African-American community. As you continue choosing your critical advisers, we want to stress the importance of ensuring every community has a seat at the table."

Obama came under fire earlier this year when he chose white males to fill the most powerful slots at State, Treasury and Defense. Since then, he also has named nominees to head the Energy Department, Environmental Protection Agency, the Interior Department and the Office of Management and Budget. None of the candidates are African-American. The president is expected to nominate Thomas Perez, who heads the civil rights division at the Justice Department, for Labor secretary.

U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk, who will soon step down, and Attorney General Eric Holder are the only African-Americans in cabinet-level positions.

"The absence of diverse voices leads to policies and programs that adversely impact African-Americans," Fudge wrote, adding that she is disappointed that none of the candidates the CBC has recommended for cabinet positions have "received the consideration they deserve.
